Dr. Vincent Brown

Vincent Brown is an applied climatologist and physical geographer whose research
focuses on precipitation characteristics, temperature variability, tropical cyclones,
climate extremes, and climate change. He is particularly interested in conducting
stakeholder-driven research that helps communities build resilience to weather and
climate extremes.

Using geospatial analysis and statistical modeling, his recent research has examined
asymmetric winter temperature change, long-term changes in freeze-day climatology
across the United States, the representation of hourly precipitation characteristics in
high-resolution gridded datasets, extreme precipitation events, changing tropical
cyclone characteristics, and heat variability across the southeastern United States.
Additional research has explored the influence of weather and climate on species such
as crawfish and oysters.

A central focus of Brown’s work is translating climate science into actionable information
for decision-makers. Since 2016, he has been a member of the Southern Climate
Impacts Planning Program (SCIPP), a NOAA Climate Program Office-funded Regional
Integrated Sciences and Assessments (RISA) team, where he collaborates with
stakeholders to develop climate information and decision-support tools that enhance
preparedness and resilience to weather and climate hazards.
