Walking Tour of Tuscaloosa – StoryMap Experience

  • Date and Time: Self-guided; available through the conference
  • Capacity: Unlimited
  • Cost: Free
  • Description: A self-guided walking tour of downtown Tuscaloosa, highlighting the city’s history, culture, entertainment districts, and recommended restaurants near the event venue. Participants will receive access to an interactive StoryMap featuring historical landmarks, public art, local attractions, and curated dining recommendations ranging from iconic Alabama barbecue to popular game-day establishments. This flexible option allows attendees to explore the city at their own pace while learning about Tuscaloosa’s evolution, university influence, and local culture.

University of Alabama Bryant-Denny Stadium Tour & Nick Saban Field

  • Date and Time: Sunday, November 22, 2026, at 2:00PM
  • Capacity: 60 people
  • Cost: $15 per person
  • Description: The University of Alabama has offered a guided tour experience of Bryant-Denny Stadium and the historic football facilities. The tour will include access to Bryant-Denny Stadium, the Walk of Champions, and Nick Saban Field, while also exploring the role of athletics within the cultural and economic geography of the Southeast. Participants will experience one of the nation’s most iconic college football venues while learning about the broader geographic and cultural impact of athletics at The University of Alabama. 

Moundville Archaeological Park Guided Tour

  • Date and Time: Sunday, November 22, 2026 (Time TBD)
  • Capacity: 5-35 participants per group
  • Cost: Estimated $15 per person
  • Description: The University of Alabama’s Moundville Archaeological Park is one of the nations’ premier Native American heritage sites. Located 13 miles south of Tuscaloosa along the Black Warrior River, the park preserves 326 acres containing 29 massive earthen mounds constructed by the Mississippian people more than 800 years ago. Participants will enjoy a guided two-hour tour of the grounds and museum led by a specialist in Mississippian culture and archaeology.

USGS Hydrological Instrumentation Facility (HIF) Tour

  • Date and Time: Sunday, November 22, 2026 at 12:00PM and 3:00PM
  • Capacity: 30 people per group 
  • Cost: Free
  • Description: The USGS Hydrological Instrumentation Facility (HIF) has offered to provide guided tours of its facility for conference attendees. The tour will highlight hydrological instrumentation, monitoring technologies, and applied research related to water resources and environmental science.
