SEDAAG Undergraduate Conference Participation Awards

The Southeast Division of the American Association of Geographers (SEDAAG) is pleased to announce the SEDAAG Undergraduate Conference Participation Awards.

These awards are generously supported through funding provided by the American Association of Geographers (AAG) to SEDAAG.

The Undergraduate Conference Participation Awards are designed to reduce financial barriers that prevent undergraduate students from participating in regional geography meetings and professional development opportunities. Across the Southeast, many geography programs operate with limited travel budgets and serve students who face significant financial obstacles to conference participation. These challenges can be especially significant for first-generation students, students attending smaller geography programs, students from rural institutions, students from historically underserved populations, and students at HBCUs.

By covering conference registration, these awards provide students with opportunities to present research, engage with faculty and peers, explore graduate education, and become active members of the regional geography community.

Awards

SEDAAG will awards six (6) Undergraduate Conference Participation Awards to offset attendance at the 2026 SEDAAG Annual Meeting in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Each award will conference registration for the Annual Meeting.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at an institution within the SEDAAG region.
  • Attend the 2026 SEDAAG Annual Meeting in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Preference will be given to:

  • First-time SEDAAG conference attendees.
  • Undergraduate students presenting research or posters.
  • Students from institutions with limited travel support.
  • Students enrolled in smaller geography programs with limited financial support.
  • Students demonstrating financial need.

Application Materials

Applicants should submit as a single PDF:

  • A one-page statement describing how attending the SEDAAG Annual Meeting will contribute to their academic and professional development.
  • A short letter of support from a faculty member.
  • A copy of their conference abstract or title.

Award Notification: After September 25, 2026
