Dr. Lan Mu
University of Georgia

Lan Mu is a Professor in the Department of Geography and Director of the GIScience
Certificate Program at the University of Georgia, with a courtesy appointment in Health
Policy & Management in UGA’s College of Public Health. She also directs the GIScience for Health and Environment Analytics Lab (GIS.HEAL), where she uses geospatial and GeoAI methods to study health and environmental questions.

Her scholarship spans GIScience, health and environmental applications, spatial analysis of physical, socioeconomic, and social media data, environmental planning,
computational geometry, and cartography. She collaborates with colleagues in public
health, epidemiology, medicine, agricultural economics, psychology, computer science,
and related fields. NIH, NSF, USDA, UCGIS, and UGA have supported her research. She has developed and taught a range of GIScience courses, from introductory GIScience and GIScience for Health and Environment to GIS Programming, Geovisualization and doctoral seminars.

Lan Mu has been active in scholarly leadership and professional service, including serving as Co-Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Health Geographics and as a former President and Chair of the Board of Directors of the International Association of Chinese Professionals in GIScience. As an AAG Lifetime Member, she has contributed to AAG through judging the Nystrom Dissertation Award and student paper competitions in GIScience and Spatial Analysis and Modeling (SAM), and through organizing and chairing symposiums and conference sessions. These experiences have given her a strong appreciation for the collaborative work that sustains academic and professional communities. She would bring a thoughtful, collegial, and service-oriented approach to the SEADAAG officer role.
