2023 Ph.D. Mini-Grants

The Southeastern Division of the Association of American Geographers (SEDAAG) is pleased to announce a graduate student Mini-Research Grant Competition. Funding for up to five small grants of $500 this year is made possible thanks to financial support from the AAG.

Proposals on any topic that will further geographic understanding via research are invited. The competition is open to a) currently enrolled Ph.D. students in universities in the region who have not yet defended their dissertation research; and b) who are current members of SEDAAG (https://sedaag.org/membership/ ). Grant recipients may not be eligible for future SEDAAG student grant competitions. Proposals may not be longer than 3-pages and must include a brief budget indicating how the funds will be used. A separate attachment of the applicant’s curriculum vita, and an email from your advisor verifying applicant eligibility (e.g., verifying current enrollment in a Ph.D. program and has not yet defended their dissertation research) should also be submitted. No additional supplementary material should be included. Awardees are expected to present material related to this grant at a future SEDAAG meeting and submit a brief report of how the funds were used no-later than November 1, 2023 (email the report to bgraves@uncc.edu).

Proposals must be received no later than January 6, 2023. Proposals will be judged by a committee of peers and faculty working in the region. Preference will be given to proposals which support work within and/or on the SEDAAG region, as well as proposals which credibly propose contributions to SEDAAG such as annual meeting presentations or organized sessions and/or publication in the Southeastern Geographer. Electronic submissions in word.doc format should be sent as an attachment to: bgraves@uncc.edu.
